Would You Like to Buy a Cacophonometer? Easy Way to Monitor Bird Song in Your Area
A team is looking to set up a company to sell and distribute devices and services that use the research The Cacophony Project has been working on. The device records background bird song every hour for a few minutes and then uploads the data to the cloud. This way a reliable time series can be collected and there will be increasingly sophisticated ways that these will be able to be analysed to give you real objective data on the trends of bird life in your area.
If you would like to be one of the first to try a device please contact us and we can connect you with the team working on devices. There are a range of options we are looking at and would like your feedback on:
- Waterproof case and long extension cord to allow you to use an old smart phone of your own with your existing wifi
- Solar powered version using cell phone net work for data upload
- Solar powered version that allows blue tooth download by people intermittently
- Later we will have developer kits for the digital lures and identification
By the time the devices are available for sale they will include an automatic voice deletion algorithm so that you do not need to worry about voices being uploaded to the cloud.
The first device will be purely a monitoring tool, but getting this set up sooner rather than later will be key to understanding the impact of predator eradication tools. Customers with long-term monitoring will be given the first chance to buy new devices for predator elimination.
